What’s New in Technology?

Samsung Did What?

Would you be willing to pay  anywhere from $1,980-$2,600 for a cell phone? Well Samsung is hoping that you will! This phone is foldable, yes you read that correctly, foldable. While folded this smartphone will have a 4.6 inch display and once opened 7.3 inch infinity stretch display that makes this phone a tablet.

The extra wide screen will host features like multiple screen options where you can watch a youtube video, text your friend, and surf the web all at once. The downfall to this extremely intriguing phone is that the launch will only take place in Europe on May 3rd.

So what all does this extremely smart, smartphone include?

The Samsung Galaxy Fold will have not one but two separate batteries that work together once the phone is unfolded. The Verge reported that “Samsung is using 512GB of Universal Flash Storage 3.0 (eUFS) for fast speeds, alongside a Qualcomm 7nm octa-core processor and 12GB of RAM.” The phone is also built for stability. The hinge system that is completely hidden on the inner workings of the phone is said to be able to fold at least 200,000 times! That is at least 100 times a day for five years. The device also has a triple camera system and to top it off the phone will come in at four different colors.

Why it matters?

Samsung is not the first to launch a foldable touch screen smart phone but it is one of the few to make it widely available. This could very well be the next “Big Thing” in the world of smartphones. Making a phone that hosts all the qualities of a tablet and a phone while still being manageable in size and usability is a game changer. My only thought is “How will the competitors one-up this highly innovative move that Samsung has made?”
